Pray for Leah
14 May 2024 was Leah Sharibu’s 21st birthday, and yet another spent as the hostage of terrorists.
We haven’t forgotten her – or the many others like Leah who have been abducted in Nigeria. Will you raise your voice in prayer?
Leah was just 14 years old when she was taken from her school in Dapchi, northeast Nigeria, in February 2018. She was the sole Christian among a group of 110 girls abducted by members of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The surviving girls were returned home a month later following negotiations, but Leah was not among them. She had refused to convert in exchange for her release and has been in captivity ever since.
Alice Loksha Ngaddah is a Christian nurse who was abducted from Rann in Borno state, along with two Muslim colleagues who were executed. Alice and Leah were declared 'slaves for life'.
Sadly, Leah and Alice are among hundreds of women and girls held by terrorist factions, including 87 girls abducted from the school in Chibok, Borno State, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
We pray for Leah’s freedom; for Alice’s freedom; and freedom for all who are still missing.
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)
Heavenly Father,
Today we remember Leah and countless others like her who have been abducted in Nigeria.
We pray that they will soon be returned to those who love them; for their healing, their restoration and the rebuilding of their lives.
As we read in Psalm 27, Lord, would you bring light to the places where they are held. Cause all fear to flee, and cause the perpetrators to 'stumble and fall'.
Arise, O God, and intervene in miraculous ways so that justice will prevail. We call on you to turn their situation around. Nothing is too hard for you!
We speak freedom for Leah, and freedom for many who are in the same situation today. May they, and Nigeria, be delivered.
